Duncan Williamson

Duncan is an Accounting and Management Consultant with significant experience with a sustained record of success established in the Educational, Financial and Commercial sectors.

Duncan is an inspirational presenter whose excellent communication skills have been demonstrated across several countries and cultures assisting students, trainees and colleagues to achieve their full potential. Duncan’s international experience includes projects and consultancies carried out in the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Balkans and Denmark. He also regularly works with colleagues from around the world via his on line activities.

Duncan combines his extensive academic and training experience with significant manufacturing and commercial work. In addition to working as a teacher and trainer, Duncan has experience of working in a wide variety of settings, ranging from working as a management accountant in process industries in the UK to product cost consulting in several industries in Eastern Europe and the oil and gas industry in the Middle East. Duncan has worked in and around a number of oil and gas based companies over recent years.

In terms of Duncan’s IFRS work, he first developed a training curriculum for the government of Armenia in 2000 following which he undertook a major curriculum development job via USAID in Central Asia as they created and developed an organisation for accountants in the region to assist with the transition to IFRS. He was the head of the team that was also given the task of generating the English-Russian dictionary for IFRS. Since then he has regularly taught and developed training programmes which include the upgrading of the practical implementation of IFRS in various ministries in the government of Romania as part of the run up to their accession to the European Union. Since then he has regularly led seminars and training programmes in IFRS for accountants and managers, including a special two week course for the Nigerian National Oil Company. His latest course offering was an intensive refresher and updating course for qualified accountants covering all IFRS.

Duncan has published widely over the years and his publications listing includes published books and articles, case studies and so on: his latest book is Excel Solutions for Accountants book four as well as an Introduction to Power Query, both for the same publisher. He is currently working on two further books: an Introduction to Power Pivot for Excel and Power BI for the Desktop. In addition, he has written The Accounting and Bookkeeping Coach, published in April 2014 by Hodder and Stoughton. He self published three books in 2012: a large starter book on Excel together with much small introductory text on Excel. He also published a book of cases for the mSME that concern business/start up cases for the ASEAN region. In 1996 Prentice Hall published his text book and student manual on cost and management accounting; ebooks on a variety of accounting topics; numerous articles in various magazines and journals; contributions to major web sites, and he maintains his own web site.

Duncan holds an MBA degree from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK together with a Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He also holds a Certificate of Education and a Higher National Diploma in Business Studies.
